Shooting in East Hollywood leaves two dead

Two people, including a suspected gunman, were found dead inside a burned East Hollywood home, police officials said.

Domestic violence is believed to have triggered an East Hollywood shooting that left two dead, including the gunman, and three others wounded, police said.

Lt. Andy Nieman of the Los Angeles Police Department said the shooter had a former relationship with a woman who lived at the home. She is among the three survivors, he said.

A SWAT team entered the home Thursday afternoon after firefighters knocked down the blaze in the 500 block of North Harvard Boulevard at 3:15 pm.

Police did not identify the alleged gunman or the victim, who could not be identified because the body was badly burned.

Three shooting victims — two approximately 38-year-old women and a man man about 34 years old — were retrieved from the front entry area of the house. All had suffered gunshot wounds to the upper torso and were taken to a local hospital in serious condition, but police said the victims were conscious and able to communicate with officers.

Authorities have not said what prompted the shooting.

A woman who lives across the street from the home told The Times she saw a man who may have been the shooter go to the door shortly before the gunfire.

Maria Arguello, 60, said she saw a young man with a ponytail, dressed in black, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a duffel bag. He banged on the door of the house and then went inside, she said. She heard gunshots shortly after.

The fire and shooting prompted the evacuation of Harvard Elementary School as well several nearby homes.
