Cop Calls: Vehicle Burglaries Around Newport Beach

In several cases, the suspect (s) smashed the car’s window to get the valuables inside.

Police say vandals in Newport Beach broke into cars last week, damaging several windows and stealing electronics.

  • An unknown suspect broke into a car in the 500 block of Bayview Circle on Monday, Feb. 27 between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Police say the suspect shattered the passenger side window of the vehicle and stole two laptop computers, a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and a Blackberry cell phone.
  • An unknown suspect broke into a car on Shearwater Place sometime between Sunday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7 a.m. Police say the suspect shaterred the driver side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a laptop computer and a case.
  • An unknown suspect broke into a car on Hertford sometime between Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 a.m. The suspect shattered the driver’s window of the victim’s vehicle and stole an iPhone from the center console. The vehicle was parked on the street and the iPhone was in plain view.
  • An unknown suspect broke into a car on Bellevue between sometime Sunday, Feb. 26 at 10:15 a.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 a.m. The suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle, parked in the driveway, and stole a laptop, cash and sunglasses.

Vehicle Safety Tips:

– Close windows and lock doors when you leave your vehicle even if you’re gone for only a few minutes.
– Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle. If you cannot take them with you, hide them from view prior to arriving at your destination.
– When parking outside of your garage, treat your garage door opener as if it were a key to your home and remove it from your vehicle.
– If your vehicle has an alarm, activate it!
– Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
– Call police immediately if you see suspicious activity at 949-644-3717.
