Shooting at L.A. Chinese Consulate

Posted on by admin

Los Angeles police said a protester apparently fired shots at a security guard outside the Chinese Consulate on Thursday afternoon, missing his target and hitting a building in the compound instead.

There were no initial reportChinese consulates of injury, though details were still developing.

Early reports indicated that a group of protesters had gathered outside the consulate when one of the protesters got into a verbal dispute with a security guard, who allegedly had taken a sign from the man and tossed in the trash.

The protester got into a vehicle and fired several shots in the direction of the security guard, all of which missed, police said.

At least one round reportedly hit the consulate and there were no apparent reports of injuries at the consulate around 2:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Shatto Place, according to law enforcement sources who asked not to be identified because the investigation is unfolding.

It was not clear who the intended target might be, how many shots were fired or whether anyone in the vicinity was hit by gunfire.
